Abstract

Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) remains the gold standard revascularization procedure for patients with high-grade carotid artery stenosis. Transfemoral carotid artery stenting (TFCAS) was introduced as a minimally invasive alternative procedure in patients who are deemed high-risk for CEA. Previous studies have shown increased risk of perioperative stroke in TFCAS vs CEA; however, the long-term implications of these perioperative differences have not been completely studied. We aimed to compare long-term outcomes of CEA vs TFCAS using the VQI Vascular Implant Surveillance and Interventional Outcomes Network (VISION).
