Abstract

Spontaneous degradation of polypropylene implanted with 50, 100 and 150 keV I + ions to the dose of 1 × 10 15cm −2 was examined in the time interval of 0–745 days after the ion implantation. Incorporation of oxygen during the storage of the implanted samples in air is observed with saturation being reached within 100 days after the ion implantation. The implanted I atoms are found to diffuse slowly from the implantation site with a diffusion coefficient of about 4.5 × 10 −20cm 2sec −1.
