Abstract

Background: Large petrous and petroclival meningiomas may have the significant adhesion to the brain stem. Despite the usefulness of preoperative MRI to predict the severity of the brain stem adhesion, the judgment on the feasibility of dissecting the tumor off of the bain stem largely depends on the intraoperative findings. On the contrary, the true significance of radical resection of tumor on the brain stem from the standpoint of long-term tumor control remains unknown.
