Abstract
Background: In this study, we investigated whether long-term Atrial Natriuretic Peptide (ANP) treatment can improve ventricular remodeling in rats with heart failure post experimental autoimmune myocarditis (EAM). Methods: Rats surviving for 28 days after EAM induction, were administrated a 28-day infusion of ANP (n = 14) or vehicle (n = 14). In addition, five rats were assigned to untreated sham group. After four weeks, we measured myocardial cGMP, left ventricular function, myocyte hypertrophy, interstitial fibrosis, capillary-to-myocyte ratio, and the activity of vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (VASP), which is recently reported to have association with angiogenesis.
