Abstract

Wind-tunnel investigations are commonly used to determine pollutant concentrations in the vicinity of buildings. Results of these investigations should be comparable and compatible with the format used to express air quality standards. An analysis method for wind-tunnel data is proposed which enables the calculation of the frequency distribution of pollutant concentrations which is compatible with the Dutch “National Model”. The outcome is long-term averaged concentrations as well as percentile values based on 1-h averaged concentrations. The method takes into account the lack of horizontal meandering in the wind tunnel compared to the real atmosphere and the effect of wind speed.
