Abstract
A new rotating coil was developed for precise magnetic characterization of the Brazilian synchrotron light source insertion devices. The first of these devices is a 2 tesla planar wiggler with 180 mm of period, and subsequent devices are under construction and studies. Mechanical and electrical features of this characterization technique are presented, emphasizing the rigidity obtained by fixing the coil on stretched twaron wires. Coil defects, main sources of error, are also analyzed, as well as their characterization by means of a dipolar magnetic field. Some results about measurement performance are discussed.
