Abstract

Measurements of the spatial and spectral intensity correlation of microwave radiation allow us to identify the leading terms in a perturbation expansion of the correlation function. This function is shown to depend upon two average properties of damped eigenstates of the random medium. These are the average level width \ensuremath{\delta}\ensuremath{\nu} and the number of eigenstates within the level width \ensuremath{\delta}, whose inverse is the expansion parameter for the correlation function.
