Abstract

Two-dimensional long-range effects have been pointed out electrochemically for palladium adlayers on Pt(1 1 1) in the absence of anion specific adsorption. The observation of these effects requires well ordered electrode substrates. In this way, the characteristic features are not observed on stepped electrodes with 20 atoms wide terraces. The formation of a homogeneous adlayer is also required and the effects are pointed out only when the palladium coverage is close to the completion of the full monolayer.
