Abstract

This paper reviews spectrum fatigue test data performed at long lives (>10 7 cycles) on welded specimens and data from literature. Comparing these extreme data with current fatigue codes gives occasion to suspect that these codes give design values that are far too optimistic with respect to typical applications in many industries. This seems to hold for widely different joint types. The fatigue lives appear also to be greatly sensitive to spectrum type at low stress.
