Abstract

This study focuses on the intergenerational transmission of status in Canada by examining the educational and occupational achievements of women and men raised in dual parent, female headed lone parent, and male headed lone parent families. The net effects of the two separate multiple classification analyses indicate that: offspring from dual parent families have the highest levels of educational and occupational achievement; offspring from male-headed families have the lowest levels of educational achievement; and females from male-headed families and males from female-headed families have the lowest levels of occupational achievement.
