Abstract
Royal Free and University College Medical School in London is set to follow the example of Oxford and Cambridge by adopting the Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT) for the coming academic year. The BMAT is a two hour test consisting of two multiple choice question papers and an essay section that tests aptitude and skills, scientific knowledge, and application and writing. Prospective medical students have to sit the exam at one of the designated UK or international open centres, and the results are distributed to the universities. “With the huge volume of applications we have now it is very difficult to be objective about who we should select for the interview places we have.
