Abstract
Russian poetry of the eighteenth century has not been adequately studied. Not only have the main contours of future research on the subject not yet been delineated, the basic sources have not even been gathered. We must begin the research itself with a clarification of the fundamental concepts and points of view involved, which have also not yet been adequately elaborated. Thus, for example, we must raise the question of Russian classicism and its relationship to the corresponding movements in Western.
