Abstract

Emotion-related impulsivity (ERI) is the trait-like tendency to act rashly during high emotion states. ERI predicts a broad range of psychopathology, including depression, mania, anxiety, substance abuse, aggression, and suicidality. The neurobiological underpinnings of ERI are not fully understood; however, one pupillometry study implicated the locus coeruleus - norepinephrine (LC-NE) system, which influences physiological arousal. We extend investigation of the LC-NE system and ERI using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
