Abstract

With the rapid development of mobile communications in recent years, mobile devices have ways to access Internet and contact a map service center. The most significant of mobile location based service (LBS) is that its services may vary dependent on different situation, demand, and location of individual users. That is to provide appropriate information and service based on the understanding the users' location and demand. Challenges remain include: how to make users' operation easy; how to change map content according to users' requirements and location changes; how to improve the location accuracy; how to support mobile devices with various screen size or resolution. In this paper, these issues are investigated with the design and implementation of a location-aware mobile service for transportation information. The mobile public transportation information service we developed provide map-based information of the nearest mass rapid transit (MRT) station, the nearest bus stop of the bus route chosen by the user, and the nearest bus stop of the bus route that can take the user to his/her chosen destination
