Abstract

The location of appressorium formation in Colletotrichum graminicola (Ces.) Wils. was studied using natural and artificial (nail polish and epoxy) leaf surfaces. The distribution of appressoria relative to the groove over the anticlinal walls of the epidermal cells was the same for natural and artificial surfaces. This evidence shows that the location of appressorium formation is controlled by the host topography and not by localized host exudations.
