Abstract

In practical engineering, there are many systems which can be modeled as a periodic structure constituted of repeating identical subsystems, and they have drawn extensive attentions from researchers and engineers. In this study, based on the concept of non-linear output frequency response functions (NOFRFs), an effective method is developed to detect the position of non-linear components in two dimensional periodic structures. The effectiveness of the method is demonstrated by numerical studies. As the information of non-linearity location could give an indication of certain features of structures, such as the locations of cracks in field of structural health monitoring, and could also be beneficial to make the mathematical modeling of non-linear structures, then the new method is of great practical significance in health monitoring or system identification for structural systems.
