Abstract

The static susceptibilities of dilute 4d-transition solutes in liquid tellurium have been measured. The additional susceptibilities show non-magnetic behaviour and are interpreted in terms of the virtual bound state (v.b.s.) of solute ions. Using the experimental data, the half-width Δ of v.b.s. and the effective intra-atomic d-d interaction are estimated as 2.2 eV and 6.0 eV, respectively.
