Abstract

A case of localized, giant pseudopolyposis of the colon is presented. The clinical and pathologic features are described, and the reasons for interpreting them as “granulomatous” colitis are given. The question of proper management of this class of lesion is raised. It is pointed out that there is a zero reported incidence of carcinoma in inflammatory pseudopolyps. The conclusion is drawn that surgery may not be necessary in those cases in which the diagnosis can be established by x-rays and colonoscopic biopsy.
