Abstract

Introduction: The goal of this work is to use the Lorentz force effect to generate localized currents in an ionic medium by applying ultrasound in the presence of oscillating magnetic fields. We expect to generate low frequency currents from the high frequency oscillations of ultrasound and magnetic fields. The duration of one complete, active cycle of the induced currents will be similar to that in TMS. This study aims to develop a theoretical framework, conduct numerical simulations and validate the results experimentally. This framework will be used in future work to develop a novel Magnetic Ultrasound Stimulation (MUS) system which can achieve highly focused, non-invasive, deep brain stimulation.
