Abstract

Localized corrosion behavior of UNS S30403 type stainless steel was studied by cyclic polarization scans, scratch tests and Contact Electric Resistance (CER) technique in simulated paper-mill environments at pH 3 or 5 (55 or 65°C) containing varying amounts of chloride, sulfate and thiosulfate. Polarization scans, scratch tests and CER technique gave similar results on thiosulfate related pitting and crevice corrosion.
