Abstract

It has been found that there is a greater concentration of radioactive organic and inorganic iodine compounds in the posterior hypophysis than in the plasma of rabbits 48 hr. after the subcutaneous injection of carrier-free radioactive iodide. This localization does not occur in the rabbit's anterior hypophysis. There are indications that these results are due to a localization in the posterior hypophysis of thyroid hormone and its subsequent deiodination there.
