Abstract

This article presents the key results of comprehensive investigations and the development of an algorithm which targets the partial discharge (PD) localization in spatial distributed rotating machine windings. Limitations and accuracy of the developed tool are discussed using the case study of a 4 kV rated voltage motor winding. Artificial and real PD events, which are provoked at various positions along the insulation system, can be localized reliably within certain limits. In addition, the influence of different measurement configurations is investigated and assessed regarding their application possibilities for fault localization.
