Abstract
The precise localization of pathologic changes or a foreign body in the eyeground is one of the important and difficult problems of ophthalmology. At the Thirteenth International Congress of Ophthalmology (held in Amsterdam in 1929), in discussing the operative treatment of retinal detachment, Lindner, Igersheimer, Bruckner, Lowenstein and others pointed out that the precise localization of retinal rupture and the touching of this place with a thermocautery are very difficult and that the operation for detachment of the retina cannot become popular among ophthalmologists so long as new methods are lacking for the localization of the ruptured place and for the finding of its projection on the sclerotic when operating. It is equally important to be able to localize precisely a foreign body adjacent to the eyeground, particularly in the posterior section of the eyeball.
