Abstract
Filler localization behaviors determine the morphology and final properties of immiscible polymer blends composites. In this study, we report a simple and efficient approach to tailor localization behaviors of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in immiscible polylactide/crosslinking polyurethane (PLA/COP) blends through dynamic vulcanization. CNTs dispersed in the dispersed COP phase if they were added before dynamic vulcanization while localized in the continuous PLA phase and at the interface when they were added after dynamic vulcanization. The particle size of dispersed phase increased by dispersion of CNTs in the COP phase and decreased through dispersion of CNTs in the continuous PLA phase. The composites with different CNTs localization behaviors showed totally different electrical conductivities, rheological and mechanical properties. This study provides a facile way to tailor filler localization behaviors in immiscible polymer blends especially for those are fabricated by dynamic vulcanization, such as thermoplastic vulcanizates.
