Abstract

In this paper, the detection of a corona effect based onphase-resolved images is studied. An advanced method for localization andidentification of defects occurring in high voltage (HV) overhead lines andsubstation power equipment is presented. Under the laboratory conditionsphase-resolved images of discharges, generated at certain spots within the HVtransmission line, were registered. Those spots represented defects existingin the real environment and they were sources of additional corona discharges. Results indicated that phase-resolved images of corona interference are wellcorrelated to a special kind of defect occurring within the HV overhead lines,as well as within substation power equipment.
