Abstract

Silver nitrate reduction was shown to occur in illuminated suspensions of Hibiscus grana. The action spectrum of this reduction, the Molisch reaction, proved to coincide satisfactorily with the chlorophyll absorption spectrum. Electron micrographs reveal that this reaction occurs in single lamellae. From this it is concluded that lamellae are the bearers of chlorophyll.
