Microsatellites are regions of short repeated DNA sequences. A deficiency of mismatch repair (MMR) genes, whose role is to correct errors or damage in the DNA, leads to microsatellite instability (MSI). MSI affects around 15% of colorectal carcinoma (CRC).1,2 The detection of MSI is important for CRC prognosis, assessment of Lynch syndrome and therapy planning, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors in metastatic CRC.1,3
