Abstract

An algorithm for local tooth fault detection in gearboxes is proposed. The method is based on the assumption that local faults produce a series of impulses in the vibration time response signals. These impulses are detected by a moving window. The method is applied to vibration data to detect a broken tooth in a spur gear. The study includes the analysis of the window function parameters which affect the results.
