Abstract

Conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy was applied at 4.2, 80 and 300 K to study the alloying effects due to high dose (2 × 10 16 cm −2) implantation of 119Sn + ions into aluminium. The nature of the local states of tin and their thermal evolution after isochronal (1 h in 100°C steps) annealing up to 400° is discussed. The three main components of the spectra obtained were ascribed to substitutional tin, to tin in highly compressed positions and to SnO 2.
