Abstract

Given the energy of American Chemical Society members, it would be hard to imagine that anyone in the U.S. missed the message of National Chemistry Week (NCW). In yet another powerhouse effort, all 187 ACS local sections mobilized the week of Nov. 6-12 to reach people of all ages across the nation. Events, which focused on the good news about chemistry, included chemistry exhibits and demonstrations at shopping malls, museums, libraries, and other sites, along with a mixture of other activities. In addition to coordinating NCW overall, ACS staff members planned a number of projects, many of which aimed to educate young people about chemistry and careers. The NCW national office distributed more than 1.5 million brochures, buttons, balloons, calendars, and other products to assist the local sections in their effort to promote chemistry awareness.
