Abstract

Local architecture plays a fundamental role in enriching the national heritage of each country as advanced countries strive to show national identity and pride in it. Interior designers must be aware of this concept and make it among their priorities when designing interior spaces. Interior decoration products have great significance and an important legacy in defining local heritage This paper explores the experiences and efforts of some of the countries in rooting their own local designs. It also reviews some examples of designs of interior decoration products inspired by the local architectural heritage, with the aim of benefiting from them in designing and manufacturing products inspired by the authentic Saudi architectural heritage. The paper uses the applied approach where the researcher applied three different designs on decorative products using various traditional and electronic manual methods with the help of advanced programs to produce samples for contemporary wallpaper (at the printing labs in University of Arts London, UK), in addition to samples of different decoration products such as cushions and carpets. The research also used a questionnaire tool addressed to designers to explore their views towards designs localizations and the impact of architectural heritage in inspiring their contemporary designs.
