Abstract

The diffuse x-ray scattering and small-angle neutron scattering of a $\mathrm{Pt}--47\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{at.}\phantom{\rule{0.2em}{0ex}}%$ Rh single crystal aged at $923\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{K}$ were measured to determine the local atomic arrangement. The separated short-range order scattering including the small-angle scattering range showed weak intensity modulations, with the maximum at $1\frac{1}{2}0$ positions, thus indicating the presence of local order. In contrast to short-range order scattering, size-effect scattering is already well visible in the raw data, in spite of the small difference of 3% in the atomic sizes. Size-effect scattering is mainly due to Rh-Rh displacements.
