Abstract

Reports results of a research project, undertaken between June 1991 and July 1992, to examine the Local Management of Schools (LMS) claus es of the 1988 Education Reform Act and their implications for school libraries in the UK. Concentrates on the provision of resources to sec ondary school libraries and focuses on authorities in England and Wales, but excludes London Boroughs. In a sample of six of these authorities (three metropolitan and three county), the heads, representative governors, librarians, teacher-librarians and heads of resources, were interviewed in three schools from each authority, to determine the effects of LMS and to ascertain how the attitudes of key people in the decision making process may influence the destiny of school library services.
