Abstract

In this paper an attempt is made to document how small-scale garment producers and retailers organise and relate with each other at a local level in Nairobi. The activities reflect an entrepreneurial endeavour characterised by individual efforts and networks between the small garment retailers and producers. An analysis of the local government and local economic development in the city of Nairobi is made, and then garment retailers' characteristics, factors affecting retailers and producers' stocking characteristics and procurement are discussed. The paper also describes the relationship between small-scale producers and reproducers.
