Abstract

Ben Tre's geographic location has long had an important impact and contributed to the formation of a wealth of indigenous knowledge useful in agricultural activities and production, occupation of the community of three districts Ba Tri, Binh Dai and Thanh Phu (Ben Tre province). At present, climate change and sea level rise are challenges for coastal areas as natural conditions are constantly being affected and changed. The paper analyzes livelihood initiatives and bases on the role of indigenous knowledge in shaping the adaptive capacity of Ben Tre coastal communities. In addition, the paper also proposes solutions to exploit and promote the value of indigenous knowledge to enhance the capacity to adapt to climate change and towards sustainable development of communities in the area of residence.
