Abstract

A semi-analytical method is used in this paper to determine the local joint flexibility of tubular joints of offshore structures. Local joint flexibilities of T and Y joints under axial force and in-plane bending moment are calculated and verified by comparison with those evaluated by the existing formulae. A series of K joints with symmetric configuration is calculated and local joint flexibility matrices are obtained. Formulae to evaluate elements in the local joint flexibility matrix of K joints with symmetric configuration are derived by regression of the data obtained in the calculations. The formulae are recommended for use in prediction of the local joint flexibility in the global analysis of offshore structures when joint flexibility is considered.
