Abstract

s – d hybridizing effects constitute the major part of local field effects in transition metals. Therefore local field corrections to phonon frequencies in transition metals are taken to be mainly as a result of these hybridizing effects. This work extends the inclusion of local field corrections in the calculation of the phonon dispersion curves to the transition metal, chromium (Cr3+) using the formalism of lattice dynamics based on the transition metal model potential approach in the adiabatic and hatmonic approximations. The results obtained here have a good fit with experimental values. Nigerian Journal of Physics Vol. 16(2) 2004: 86-96
