Abstract

In this paper we discuss the role of parental participation in the educational journey of their children in two Chinese metropoles. We start by briefly addressing international policies for promoting parents' participation in children's school learnings and then discuss the recent China family education policy. We then discuss the findings of a study held with dozens of parents and students in Shenzhen and Tianjin cities, analyzing how students and parents have been reacting to this policy and how they interact more broadly in this learning journey at home and at the school space. The paper aims to promote further reflections on the importance of involving parents in education policy development.
