Abstract

Successful endodontic therapy depends, after proper case selection, on thorough debridement and preparation of the canal, sterile technique, and a proper apical seal. In order to accomplish the first of the requirements the patient must be able to be treated painlessly. Root canal therapy has been considered, erroneously of course, to be a very painful procedure. On the contrary, many cases require no anesthesia, but when anesthesia is required, complete pulpal anesthesia is necessary. Various clinical techniques can be employed to obtain complete anesthesia. It is important to treat endodontic cases as painlessly as possible.
