Abstract
Simultaneous local acoustic shock wave velocity measurements show that the upstream velocity exceeds the downstream velocity inside a low pressure positive column nitrogen plasma in contrast to the opposite behavior in neutral gas. The shock velocity increase is also dependent on the direction of the applied electric field.
