Abstract

Abstract The Fishery Conservation and Management Act of 1976 (PL 94-265) created a new era in fishery management, featuring development of comprehensive fishery management plans by regional fishery management councils and management for “optimum yield.” In this paper we discuss the main features of the Act, consider the development of fishery management plans in general, and briefly describe management plans for lobsters.
