Abstract

In this chapter mathematical programming formulations are presented for simultaneous loading and scheduling in flexible assembly cells. The formulations are illustrated with practical applications in mechanical part assembly in a robot assembly cell and in printed circuit board assembly on a component placement machine. The models proposed enable an allocation of production tasks and resources to be made along with a detailed sequencing and scheduling decisions, and by this lead to a global optimization of the assembly process.
