Abstract

This paper presents FL-BESS (Fuzzy Logic - Battery Energy Storage System) based controller scheme that is used to improve the performance of a micro grid under islanding mode. The proposed controller works well when one of the micro sources is removed due to fault within the micro grid. Micro grid is formed by using three wind power plants feeding three-phase four-wire consumer load. The FL-BESS VF (Voltage and Frequency) controller is used for load balancing, harmonic suppression, load leveling and neutral current minimization. Conventional proportional integral (PI) based VF controller have the disadvantages like explicit description of mathematical model, variations in PI parameters with variation in consumer load and sources. In this paper fuzzy controller is proposed to enhance the performance of BESS controller and comparative analysis is done considering balanced/unbalanced and linear/non-linear consumer load. Micro grid and control schemes are simulated in MATLAB/Simulink using Sim Power System (SPS) Library.
