Abstract

Load relaxation data reported by Anciaux, near 563 K, on mill-annealed Type AlSl 304 stainless steel are interpreted in terms of a general expression which describes stress relaxation as thermally activated dislocation motion over precipitates. Several physical parameters are obtained from the stress-strain rate curves and it is shown that for some stress relaxation curves the internal stress does not remain constant during the relaxation.
