Abstract

Abstract Load-relaxation data obtained for both cold-worked and stress-relieved Zircaloy-4 are presented. The stress-relaxation curves, plotted as the logarithm of the applied stress against time, are interpreted in terms of an anelastic plastic constitutive equation, whose plastic component involves jog-drag, cell-formation and dynamic strain-ageing. Finally the parameters obtained by fitting the experimental curves to the model, the influence of dynamic strain-ageing and the possible mechanism involved in the anelastic contribution are analysed in detail.
