Abstract

We are living in the era of Internet of Things (IoT) where each and every object is connected to network and therefore able to send and receive data. The devices used here such as sensors are low power devices which are interconnected through different links. Low power and Lossy Networks (LLNs) are a class of network which mostly consists of low power devices. The IETF standard proposed routing protocol known as RPL (Routing protocol for Low power and Lossy network) is a protocol which has been designed basically for low power networks where nodes are static in nature. Mobility and load balancing are the issues in such networks. In this paper we have proposed a technique known as LBER-RPL (Load Balanced – Efficient Routing Technique) which leverages the lifetime of the RPL network by balancing the load and provides an efficient routing for dynamic environment. The simulation is carried out using Cooja Network Simulator. The performance analysis of LBER-RPL is carried out by comparing it with the standard RPL and the former outperforms with respect to packet delivery ratio, handoff and route formation delay.
