Abstract

This paper presents some reflections arising from the research project “Systematization of mero ikoots’ worldview in the light of environmental pragmatism”, led by this writer, funded by the Universidad del Mar and carried out from February 14, 2012 to August 14, 2013. The project, theoretically inspired by environmental pragmatism (Light and Katz, 1996) and also by comparative environmental ethics (Callicott, 1994), attempted to lay the groundwork for establishing a dialogue between the traditional worldview of mero ikoots and contemporary environmental ethics. After briefly explain some general aspects of the project, the text reflects on one of its findings: the differences between the mero ikoots and Western thought with regards to the concept of nature, mentioning the importance these difrerences may have for environmental ethics.
