Abstract
Bleeding caused by vitamin K defıciency (BVKD) is stili an ongoing problem in newborn infants. Three types of BVKD have been described; 1)early, 2)classical and 3) late. lntracerebral hemorrhage, which is the most serious complication of the BVKD, is more frequently seen in !ate form than early and classical forms and, three forms of BVKD is prevented by routine administration of vitamin K (VK) to the newborns. But this easy and cheap method of prophylaxy is not widely known by neither parents nor health providers in developing countries. fn this report, a 4-day-old female infant who was not administrated routine prophylactic VK, and who died from intracerebral hemorrhage due to classicaf type of BVKD. it is emphasized that intracerebral hemorrhage may be seen in classic BVKD and both parents and health providers should be given education to prevent the disease.
