Abstract

In this research, the authors consider leader-member exchange(LMX) and the individual value orientation of power distance(PD) and individualism as predictors of voice. According to the trait activation theory, we examined the extent to which PD and individualism orientation affect relationship of LMX and employee voice. Through analytical researches, LMX and PD was positively related to voice, but individualism was not related to voice. Also moderating effect of PD and individualism orientation on the relationship between LMX and employee voice was stronger when PD was low and individualism orientation was high. This study has derived several theoretical and practical implications. First, we attempted to extend relationship between employee voice and LMX studied in paychology to management. Also subordinates with a high quality of LMX has relationship positively with supervisor in voice. Second, Supervisors need to consider strategic leadership behavior depending on employees' personality characteristics and supervisors have to consider issues of power(authority) in leadership. This research has a several limitations. First, this research result is difficult to generalize due to studying limited survey of manufactured workers. Second, Relevanc of variables was inflated by common method variance.
