Abstract

Linear minimum mean squared error (LMMSE) equalization and decision feedback equalization (DFE) are effective to mitigate the effect of intersymbol interference (ISI) in one dimensional (1-D) ISI channels. In this paper, we utilize these two equalization algorithms to mitigate the effect of intersymbol intertrack interference in 2-D ISI channels. Simulation results show that like their 1-D counterparts, both 2-D LMMSE equalization and DFE archive significant improvement in bit error rate (BER) performance. We also study the effect of equalization window size on the BER performance. Simulation results reveal that there is an optimal window size for both LMMSE equalization and DFE to achieve the best BER performance.
